Our Commitment to the Environment
We are aware that we live in a world of limited natural resources, and particularly because we live in a High Desert Climate, we have strived to save water wherever we can, and use the gift of the sun. We respect the environment and work hard to support the natural and organic cycles of life. We try to avoid harmful chemicals and excess waste of non-replenishable materials.
Whenever we have a choice of how we do business, we choose the way that uses the least amount of non-renewable resources. To that end, we:
-
Recycle whatever we can.
-
Compost all organic materials and use this to replenish our garden soil.
-
Use solar exterior lighting.
-
Dry laundry on a clothesline instead of a dryer.
-
Use cloth napkins and dishware that can be cleaned and reused.
-
Use the most energy efficient water delivery systems to outdoor plants and gardens, which feature drought tolerant, native plants, and plan to use gray water for irrigation in the near future.
-
As appliances need to be replaced, we purchase those with high-energy efficiency ratings.
We encourage our guests to explore and enjoy the natural desert experience, and are happy to provide information about energy efficient living in a desert environment. We applaud people who share our philosophy of respect for the environment, and welcome travelers who are interested in living as green as possible.
